From what is a dental implant formed ?

Dental implant consists of :

  • implant itself (“screw”),
  • implant screw,
  • a conformator for gingival healing,
  • abutment,
  • dental crown.

What are the stages of dental implant ?

In the following video you are shown the steps from implant insertion to achieving dental crown (teeth on the implant).

The most important steps are:

  • Making a new dental alvelous – is done with bone drills and involves creating a socket in the bone corresponding to the desired implant;
  • Implant insertion in the new created dental alveolus;
  • Gingival suturing;
  • The healing period varies depending on the case – is the time elapsed since the implant insertion until the attachment of the gingival conformators Period ranging from 1 day to 3-5 months.
  • The attachment of gingival conformators – are screwed into the implant and are designed to give gum a circular contour around the implant abutment.
  • Taking implants impression and dental crowns implementation.

What are the advantages of dental implants ?

Advantages :

  • Implants replace the roots of natural teeth, being placed in the bone, having the
  • role of supporting dental crowns
  • Dental implants look and feel like natural teeth and can last a lifetime if cared for properly
  • Does not affect the integrity of adjacent teeth
  • We do not polish the neighboring teeth
  • Are well accepted by the body
  • Masticatory sensation similar to that of natural teeth
  • Sometimes the only solution for a fixed dental work
  • Modern solution for replacing lost teeth
  • Natural appearance of teeth on implants
  • Maintains the bone
  • Quick patient accustom with the implant
  • Maintaining vertical dimension of the face
  • Does not affect adjacent teeth
  • Improve occlusion – bite
  • Improve the stability of mobile dentures in case of overdenture on implants
Using dental implants offer a wide range of biological and aesthetic advantages. One of the most important benefits is maintaining the alveolar bone which after tooth loss is reabsorbed at a rapid pace.

Bone density and how it affects dental implants.

Bone density is an important factor in the success of an implant and refers to the internal structure of the bone and not its volume (size) . Consists of the cortical on the outside and medullary on the inside. As the medullar is more present the bone strength decreases.

Bone density varies according to :

  • location (maxilla or mandible),
  • age,
  • sex,
  • position (front or rear),
  • health condition (osteoporozo, disfunctions in the phospho-calcium system etc)

Are classifies into 4 classes D1-D4, where is the denset and D4 the most trabencular.

D1 bone is composed of an outer compact bone and of a little spongy bone inside while the D4 bone consists almost exclusively of trabecular bone with large spaces.

How can you improve bone density :

  • During implants insertion surgery through a procedure of osteocondensation and osteocompression
  • Using special implants for soft bone: Megagen Anyridge Premium

Bone quality is important, the implant placed in a more dense bone has a higher success rate.

Are there negative effects when we lose a tooth ?

The negative effects of teeth loss :

  • the tilting of the teeth
  • the tooth opposing the edentation tends to come out of its socket
  • spacing of the teeth prior to the edentation
  • Growing mobility in time of the adjacent teeth
  • Damage to the gums and the alveolar bone
  • Bone atrophy in the space of the missing teeth caused by a lack of functional impulse during mastication
  • Unilateral mastication

Initial physiological tooth arrangement

Reddened areas indicate overstretched places and dental-periodontal suffering

Teeth without antagonist come out of the dental alveolus and the adjacent teeth tilt and tend to cover the gap

Dental implants are indicated for the elderly ?

Dental implants for older people :

Dental implants are indicated for the elderly ?

Yes, dental implants have no contraindication regarding the elderly. General conditions for inserting an implant apply as well and they are :

  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Willingness to come to dental treatment knowing that is done in several steps.
  • The alveolar bone must be in sufficient quantity (height, width) for the insertion of implants.

Absolute contraindications regarding dental implants :

  • HIV / AIDS.
  • acute leukemia.
  • diabetes with blood glucose above 180mg/dl.
  • mouth infections.
  • heart attack in the last 6 months.
